Our Services - Sinus Procedures

General overview of the service:

A sinus procedure or surgery is performed to improve the normal function of the nose and sinuses. Sinusitis occurs when a sinus gets blocked, mucus backs up within the sinus, and bacterial overgrowth occurs. This can cause headaches, pressure in the face, nasal drainage, post-nasal drip, congestion, or a decreased sense of smell. With sinus surgery, our goal is to enlarge the natural sinus openings so that they are less prone to blockage and infection. Sinus surgery is also performed to remove polyps and other growths within the sinuses.

Follow-up treatments or next steps:

The recovery period will vary depending on the surgery performed and the individual patient. Many people do not have much pain after sinus surgery, but every patient is different. Depending on the extent of your surgery, you may be prescribed stronger pain medicine. Generally, postoperative discomfort, congestion, and drainage should improve after the first few days, with mild symptoms sometimes lingering several weeks after the surgery. Because sinus surgery is just one step in treating your sinus disease, Dr. Friedman may also place you on medications that can include saline rinses, nasal steroid sprays and possibly antibiotics.
