Our Services - Lower Lid Blepharoplasty

Arizona Blepharoplasty Services

Because the eyes are the focal point of contact when we meet, many people often feel self-conscious of any bagginess or puffiness below their eyelids. This may be a hereditary condition that runs in your family or it may simply come with age. When this happens, a lower lid blepharoplasty may be required, which rejuvenates and restores youthful appearance to the eyes.

How the service is done:

There are a number of options for performing lower eyelid surgery. Dr. Friedman will choose the right procedure for you based on both your physical characteristics and any aesthetic concerns. Lower lid Blepharoplasty can be done under local anesthesia. Some surgeons prefer general anesthesia, as injection of local anesthesia into the lower lid can distort soft tissue anatomy.

Conditions of the lower eyelid may be corrected with an incision just below the lower lash line. Through this incision, excess skin in the lower eyelid is removed and the excess fat can be repositioned or removed.

A transconjunctival incision, created on the inside of the lower eyelid, is an alternate technique to correct lower eyelid conditions and redistribute or remove excess fat. With this technique, no skin is removed.

Whichever method is chosen, the incisions are typically closed with removable stitches, skin adhesives (glue), or surgical tape, and a chemical peel may be recommended following the procedure for optimal results.

Follow-up treatments or next steps:

Patients who do not need the skin tightening procedure can expect their post-operative recovery to be only 7-10 days. Patients with the skin tightening can expect to have noticeable improvement within the same 7-10 day period and a few months for the small incision to disappear. It is important that you follow all postoperative instructions provided by Dr. Friedman and his staff. This will include information about bandages, taking an antibiotic if prescribed, and the level and type of activity that is safe. Lower lids surgery patients are often overjoyed with their results as their transformation from this procedure is very noticeable.
